OUT 150

Hola!

This is your e-blogger Ma’atology again for ya, under the weather and all, I am dedicated to yawl to give ya’ll the up on what is goin on this first week of Black History Month.

On a national tip, Serena Williams di her thing at the Austraillian Open last week. The once low-ranked Serena Williams, who many tennis “experts” predicted would get knocked out in the early rounds of the Australian Open, rocked the No. 1 player in the world, winning her first grand slam tournament in two years..............

In other sports news, controversial baseball player Barry Bonds signed a $15 million, 1 year contract with Sacramento Giants. But, Bonds gave the Giants the right to terminate his contract if he is indicted. The unusual provision, included in the deal that was completed Monday night, protects the team in case Bonds is charged in the federal government's steroids investigation. He is only 22 homeruns from breaking legendary baseball player Hank Aaron’s homerun record...............

Can someone please, please, please bury James Brown?

McDonalds is taking away the trans fat in their fries with a substitute and promise that the taste will still be the same.............

Who you think gonna win the Super B(r)o--wl? Either way, we all win, if ya get my drift...............

On a local tip, Edmond Burns is getting ready to sue the St. Louis County Police for violating his civil rights when they chased and beat him after a long car chase in the county this time last year. His attorney is claiming is was skurred when the cops came chasing after him...................

84 year old Jim Wilson of ST. Louis was the lucky winner of Powerball last week . he won 254 million. He said that he and his wife was going to go to Australia to vacation and will share the millions with their three sons, one who lost their job.............

It was estimated that the ice storms that happened last month will cost Missouri a total of 170 million in cleanup and in Illinois, 20 mil...............

The town of Shiloh is still in shock after the death of an 8 year old boy when an 84 year old lady crashed her car on the wall leading to the cafeteria at Shiloh Elementary. Whats wild about this was, the lady was going to a driving class at the time. How weird is that?.................

There have been several school board hearings not in favor for the St. Louis Public Schools to be taken over by the State. A decision will be made this month............

And now on to my travels….

Last Friday, Mocha Latte and I checked out the play “ Men,. Money and Goldiggers” at the Fox Theatre. The play starred Robin Givens (PICTURED ABOVE) , Carl Payne (Cole on “Martin”), Essence Atkins and Chico Benymore (of “Half and Half”) and Mari Morrow (Oh Drama). The play was typical relationship stuff but it was refreshing to see Givens portray what we all think she is –a goldigger. It was to surreal to the point wherr when she tried to be comical, it came across as though she was putting on, cause of the stigma that has been placed on her as being such.

The play had its usual elements—eye candy men, pop idioms and a Madea like character that stole the show. It wasn’t really packed when I checked it out. Maybe this was a sign of how these plays are starting to run its course.

Therr were some audience moments. When the MAdea-like character was singing into the mike her rendition of “Its Hard Out Here For A Pimp” (hers was Its Hard Out Here for a Gimp”), and the band was playing the 36 Mafia track, a sista from the crowd walked up the isle , toe up from alcohol, trying to get to the band. There was a barricade in between the first row and the band and she was trying to climb over it to get to the band. The lady that was sitting next to Mocha had cried out, “Sit down bitch!” It was embarrassing. The man she was with had to walk up the isle, grab her and take her back to her seat.

Another instance was when during intermission therr wer about three sistas hatin on Robin Givens talking about she wasn’t all that pretty in person and that her weave was skeet. Now that was just straight up hatin. She looked good to me. She always have been pretty. I think those sistas were hatin cause they couldn’t fit in a size 2 dress like Givens. Hello.

On early Saturday, I helped local actor/director Joel King move some of his props and stage setup from his crib and haul over to the 555 Washington Building for his Launch Party event for his production company, JPEK on that following Sunday. I helped build the set and was lighting director for it (I will talk more about this later on) Later that evening, I checked out the SYGU Group’s (THREE GUYS PICTURED ABOVE) monthly Fashionably Late event at Kitchen K in downtown St. Louis. DJ Nappy Needles was on the 1s and 2s.
I got there about 10ish, with no major problems at the door. Its good to see these three brothas takin over the STl on the social networking scene and peeps don’t have to pay an arm and 15 bones the first of the month to get their party and network on. Hello. The sistas at the front checked my name off after making sure I was who I was on the list and stamped my hand.
I stayed till about 12:30 am cause I had to go to Big Tah’s Swimsuits and Boots contest at the Main Ingredient. In the house were model Jimmelle, rapper Black Spade, I AM’s Walt Johnson (my bad on not shouting you out last time), Jacque Lad (who you was with that nite? LOL), Jamie Spencer and Treanna (I go a pic of them that you gots ta see!), Keith and Keenan Harris, Dana Christian (who was videotaping for SYGU) Vanita Applebum (I thought you didn’t go out gal. LOL), Melvin Moore (Happy 3-0), Evangelina (also celebratin’), Tiffany Graham(How many shots did you have?), Demond Meek (I got you, boo. LOL), and as I leaving out, model Kassandra.

FOR THE SKINNY AND MORE PICS OF THIS EVENT GO TO OUT 147

Around 1ish, I got to the Main Ingredient for Big Tah Swimsuit and Boots contest (TAH PICTURED ABOVE WITH CONTESTANTS). Luckily, it was just about to get started. I had a feeling that it was going to start a little late. Sistas had to report in their swimsuits by 11:30, but just being a pro in going to events like this, and with the doors closing at 3 in the morning, I knew there was no time frame on the actual time it was starting. (Interestingly enough, some of the people from Kitchen K traveled to this joint as well.)

This was going to be my second time coming to the Main Ingredient (the other time was for Big Tah’s B-Day event in November (SEE OUT 108) . I walked up to the front and showed my press pass, got frisked and went on through to the event next to the bar area. As I walked through, I saw Chingy and his two bodyguards near the pool table looking as though they were clueless. I don’t know what was going there, but anyway, as I walked down the hall to the other side. I saw Mocha latte, who was hosting it, emceeing telling people to quiet down so they can start the show. And what a show it was. It was definitely a soft X-rated show as the sistas had on scantily clad swimsuits that had the brothas (and some open minded sistas) tongues waggin as their swimsuits didn’t give you too much imagination. I was just gald that the sistas were in decent shape (I didn’t see any CELL or LITE on any of them).

For a moment there, I was concerned about the sistas safety, I mean t have sistas this provocatively up in club, the potential of a brotha wanting to squeeze the chocolate Charmin was not a hypothetical. But it was cool. One of the security guys I recall who had err thing under control. The girls came out and did their strut. I They didn’t speak. They were just there to be judged on their sexy swimsuits and boots outfits. Seven sistas vied for the shot of winning 500 bones with a portfolio from Hot Shots (1t Place), $300 cash and a photo package with Art Expressions (2nd place) and $200 bones (third place).

It took about 10 minutes for the deliberations and beofr you know, we knew the winners which were Kendra Nicole (ist place—who was a bult like a brock shithouse), Miss Yolanda took second (her pink ensem was stripperlicious), and Miss Theresa took third. The contest only took a half hour and afterward, people started leaving. I left soon after too. But before I did I gave dap to Big Tah and Micha for a job wlel done and told her that their event (and their were no dollaz rainin on the sistas which was a good thing. ) and none of the sistas were left empty handed. They all received goodie bags from tehri sponsors (which can be seen on OUT 148)

In the house were Demond Tucker of Jakada Fashions and 100.3 The Beat’s Bishop V –Luv.

On Sunday, I was the lighting director for local actor/director Joel P.E. King’s Launch party (CAST PICTURED ABOVE) event at 555 Washington. It was party for the launch of King’s theater production company, JPEK. I was the lighting director the event and I must say it was quite the experience. The event itself comprise of several scenes. The first was small vignettes from JPEK’s upcoming season, plays that JPEK has done in the past three years. Those include Deeper Shade of Blues, Reel Life, Thru the Eyes, Me Don and The Psychiatrist and the crowd’s fave, “Metting at the Elder’s Circle.

Prior to the show, I helped do last minute things such as taping this down and hauling that and running errands. The very last rehearsal took place an hour before the show began at 7:30 p.m. I would say over 40 people participated in this event and that is impressive especially with err body volunteering their services to be a part of this gala.

The second half, hosted by STL comedian Eric Rivers was a fashion show put on by Christophe Graffitti Designs (and sexy models by Xcel). T he third scene was a Meet the Midwest where STL singers sang including Olivia Neal (who was in some of the vignettes), Ms NV (who toe up “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” and was in some of the vignettes as well), and former Unity Theatre singer/actor Herman Gordon (they even had an impromptu hair show by one of the local hair stylists). The fourth part were dancers from COCA instructor Diadie Bathily and Ashelyliane Dance Company dance instructor Ashley Tate and the fifth was an open mike.
At the time of open mike, people started to clear out, but people were getting hype over the fact that former Soul Food star and Stomp the Yard star Darrin Henson (PICTURED ABOVE) was in the house (and actress Alicia Moseley was having a creamin attack since she found out he was in the building!LOL) to sign autographs and take pictures with his fans. He addressed the crowd thanking them for making Stomp the Yard No.1 for two weeks and that they still supported it regardless of some theaters were scared to screen because of the potential; of gang violence (He also remembered me from working at the ST. Louis American and doing a story on his coming to the STL to do his Dance Seminar in 2002.)

They also had several business that had vending tables including Christophe Designs, Xcel Models, and Debra Small’s skin products.

After JPEK’s production, King had his cast and tech crew come on stage to get their props. I walked over to the front as well. Now mind you, I was stage lighting and trying to take pics at the same time (You know I was doing some serious multi-tasking).

The staff of JPEK also sent us an email, a thank you for our services. The email read:

Good evening, All~

On behalf of JPEK CreativeWorks, a big THANK YOU is in order to everyone who supported the launch party in any way! It was your contributions, thoughts and prayers that made the event a great success! It has also kicked off a great year that JPEK has in store, so stay tuned!!!

By the way, Joel will be teaching a Drama Class starting Monday, Feb. 12. For anyone interested in signing up for a five-week intensive-training session in the various aspects of stage and film acting...and at a very competitive rate of $100/session, please contact Reona Lenox at 314-494-5378 or Randal Beans at 314-494-5976 for registration details. STL-TIDBITZ. Congrats to STL singer Sineta Roker (PICTURED ABOVE) who made it to Hollywood on American Idol. She traveled to Birmingham to the auditions. She was on Fox 2 in the Morning Wednesday and talked about her experience. I didn’t know she was some kin to weatherman Al Roker either (I guess STL singer Whitney Cook didn’t make it cause Fox 2 said that Sineta was the only STL singer to make it to Hollwyood). …Speaking of American Idol, yawl can still check out East St. Louis native and 2004 American Idol finalist Deandre Perryman’s first single called “I Love You” that have been getting some spins on FOXYT 95 and Hot 104.1. To hear it go his website

What was really going on with the accidental death of a guy who was supposedly in his car while he was parked on the curb in front of the Loft last weekend? It happened during Eye Candy’s Jan 2007 contest. From reports, someone stole a car and hit several cars in front of the Loft, causing one guy in his car to fly through the windshield killing him instantly….Congrats to local actress and singer Llysa Raykale who can now be seen on the new Schnucks commercial. She is the sista who dances with the other actors and she is the last person you see before the ad ends…Happy 21 st B-day to my photo protégé Phil Crawford. Now you are legal. LOL.

CHART-IDBITZ. STL rapper Jibbs is making slow strides up the Billboard R&B charts as his second single, “King Kong” feat. Chamillionaire, off his debut CD, “Jibbs feat. Jibbs” moves up seven places from 48 to 41 in its 8th week on that chart. Still no signs of the song on the Hot 100 or making the Top 10 of the Rap Charts.

MA’AT-IDBITZ. My sympathies goes out to the family of poet/attorney/gallery owner Sheryl Johnson who passed Wednesday from cancer. I had a chance to work with her when she had her gallery, Hatshepsut Studio Gallery in the late 90s and early 00s. She was good hearted person and believed in art and revolution. She will be greatly missed in the STL community.

BLIND BITZ. What night establishment is on the verge of losing their license due to complaints from patrons of bad security, burglaries of cars and women getting raped? I hear they got a few months to straighten up their act or else the owners cant own clubs indefinitely.
