OUT 122

Hello, Maatinators, this is your e-journalist, Ma’atology one more gain. Had enough turkey? I know what I did. I don’t think I wanna see another turkey on my plate until next year. Were you one of the many millions who went shopping the following day for Black Friday where electronics were chopped half off (What’s up with this title anyway, sounds like a holiday for US) or did you stay at the crib and tried to shove that last piece of cake and pie into your mouth. Well, I did a lot of that and tried to go out too (I will talk about that later).

But I digress.

Well, let me get to the facts at hand. I was determined to get this post up before the supposed winter/ice storm that is going to hit our way in the STL. So, I wasn’t gonna be like President Dubya and cancel out my obligations like he did with his Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Amman when he thought Baghdad-ians were gonna protest his visit on peace negotiations with the Iraqi war.

RIGHT ON!

On a local tip, the main water cooler chatter has been on two events.
One was the whereabouts of Lemay family members, a grandmother and her two adult children, a boy and a girl. who were missing after family members began to worry before Thanksgiving when they hadn't heard from family members and couldn't reach them. Relatives called authorities to help find their family. Last Sunday night, police went to the house in the 200 block of Runyon Avenue in Lemay.

But when police arrived, Anthony Lynn, 38, , who was the son of one of the grandmother’s son, never spoke with police before opening fire on an officer sent to check on the missing people's welfare, striking the cop three times in the leg. After a five-hour standoff and roughly 10 rounds of tear gas, Lynn climbed out a second-story window with his dog. He sat on an awning, reached back into the window for two guns, and raised one toward police. A police sniper fired, killing Lynn.

Then the hunt was on of the grandmother Norma Manolakos, 76 and her two children
son Michael Politte, 59, and her daughter Nedra Flippo, 56 The bodies were stuffed in a small basement closet, under a pile of bloody blankets in the Lemay home.

Police missed them in a search just days ago.

On Wednesday, relatives pushed aside clothes in front of that closet door, hung as if to shield what so many feared they would find:

Police believe Flippo's son, Tony Lynn, killed them all. "We made a mistake, and we should have found them," St. Louis County Police Chief Jerry Lee said last Wednesday night. "We did not do that, and that's our fault."

Relatives were outraged.

CAN WE SAY WRONGFUL DEATH SUIT? Tragic. This murder is reminiscent of the heinous Turnstall murders in East ST. Louis when the young children’s bodies were found in their deceased mother's apartment in the washer and dryer. I wonder if Lynn got any ideas from this? Hmmm. You never know.

The other water cooler news story was the melee that occurred at Edwardsville High School. According to reports, a dozen high school students were expelled for an on-campus brawl over who got invited to a party, a fight school officials said was arranged on the social-networking hub MySpace.com.

The school board in this St. Louis suburb voted unanimously Monday to expel the Edwardsville High School students through the end of the school year for the Nov. 9 melee. Three were seniors who were barred from graduation ceremonies next spring, Superintendent Ed Hightower said Tuesday.

No one was seriously injured in the fight involving 11 girls and one boy.

Two groups of students had been squabbling for a month about who had been invited to the party, and administrators had been working with them and their parents to avoid a conflict, Hightower said.

Seven students agreed in writing Nov. 6 to stop "disrespecting" each other, keep to themselves and report problems to adults. The students were told they faced police involvement or "exclusion" from the school if they broke the pact.

Just two days later, Hightower said, students posted My Space messages finalizing plans to fight the next day. The fight ensued as planned in the high school's commons area, Hightower said.

"There were numerous interventions, numerous opportunities for these students to resolve their differences," but they chose to fight instead, Hightower said.

MySpace is grappling with ways to curb the use of the site for such purposes, distributing a guide for school administrators and "letting them know that anything that can happen on a school playground also can happen online," said MySpace's chief security officer, Hemanshu Nigam.

Just on Wedsnesday. One of the parents of the expelled was on Tony Scott’s Break fast Crew show talking about her daughter was innocent and that when you look at the tape, her daughter tried to break up the fight and did not land a punch. As a result, she will be graduating a semester late, lose her college scholarship money and have an assault charge on her record. The mother stated that she was seeking counsel.

This is a trip on many levels. My Space has turned into a predator page where mostly youngsters go. It’s kind of like a Rave on the Internet. Like I always say, if these schools brought back corporal punishment, we wouldn’t have these problems with these kids. Get a black Mamma with a belt at these schools and watch fights and cussin out teachers cease!

On a national tip…

The U.S.District attorney office is trying to sue the Treasury department saying that American paper money represents an unfair impediment to the blind, and that the Treasury Department must come up with new U.S. currency to help the visually impaired use cash, a federal judge ruled Tuesday. U.S. District Judge James Robertson said keeping all U.S. currency the same size and texture violates the Rehabilitation Act, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in government programs.

Now I don’t have any qualms on this matter, but why did it take forever for this to happen? Apparently some blind person must have gotten short changed when they went to the store or something…

Nightclub violence is not just going on the STL…The NYC is feelin’ their share of tragedy as well. Last Saturday, there was a heinous shooting of three guys after a nightclub on the day he was to have married the mother of his two young children, Mr. Sean Bell was killed in a hail of police gunfire. And his death has sparked a furious outcry from family members and civil rights advocates, who have accused the police of using excessive force. At a vigil and rally yesterday in New York, a crowd led by the black civil rights leader, the Reverend Al Sharpton, shouted: 'No justice, no peace.'

At one point, the crowd of a few hundred counted off to 50, the number of rounds said to have been fired by the police at the 23-year-old groom and his friends as they were driving away after his bachelor party (In Jamaica, Queens) at a strip club. Twenty-one shots hit Mr. Bell's car, killing him and wounding his two passengers.

The police (who were off duty and in unmarked cars) had suspected that one of the men in the car had a gun, but investigators found no weapons.

In an NPR report earlier this week, —Police were alleging that Bell and his friends hit first and the police though that they were getting carjacked, then the cops shot back. The cops were supposedly white, Latino and one black).

CAN WE SAY AMADU DIALO?

Family members said that Mr Bell and his high-school sweetheart, 22-year-old Nicole Paultre, were to have been married at a nearby restaurant on Saturday.
But instead of a wedding, the restaurant will be the venue for his funeral.

Here we go again with this “cut and run” mentality with cops. This is definitely going to cause even more outrage in this country and protests.

Speaking of protest, The Reverend Jesse Jackson is calling for one (SURPISE). He wants folks to boycott the latest Seinfeld DVD box set in the wake of Michael Richards racist rant at a comedy club. Richards, 57, who played Kramer in the hit series, which ran from 1990 until 1998, was recently on Jackson’s nationally syndicated radio program, "Keep Hope Alive," as a part of a series of apologies for the incident, said he knew his comments hurt the black community and hoped to meet with the men (he heckled) . He told Jackson that he had not used the language before. Jackson, who called Richards' words "hateful," said the comedian's inclusion on the show was a chance for a broader discussion about "cultural isolation" in the entertainment industry. "We might turn this minus into a plus," Jackson said.
(As a matter of fact, according to reports, this wasn't the first time actor Michael Richards had a racial meltdown and used the N-word on stage. Click on the following link,
Michael Richards' First Racial Meltdown On Stage. )

As far as the hecklers in question, Frank McBride and Kyle Doss, want a personal apology and maybe some money. The men said they were part of a group of about 20 people who had gathered at West Hollywood's Laugh Factory to celebrate a friend's birthday. According to their lawyer, Gloria Allred, they were ordering drinks when Richards berated them for interrupting his act.

Allred, speaking by phone from Colorado, said Richards should meet McBride and Doss in front of a retired judge to "acknowledge his behavior and to apologize to them" and allow the judge to decide on monetary compensation.

This has gotten out of hand. An apology-yes, Money? I say. If they want Richards to pay money, he should donate funds to the Martin Luther King Memorial in DC or Halle House in NYC, hell, why not donate funds to each and every NAACP in the country. I mean, if we are going to do this-do it right!

On a sad note, we lost another pillar in the journalism world when he lost former New York Times Managing Editor Gerald Boyd (SEEN IN PIC ABOVE), 56. on Thanksgiving. In Harlem. According to an stltoday.com article, Boyd, the Soldan High School graduate started as a Post-Dispatch clerk and rose to second-in-command at The New York Times.Unfortunately, his legend is tainted especially after Boyd was caught up in controversy in 2003 after Jayson Blair, a young Times reporter and protégé of Mr. Boyd, was exposed as a serial fabricator. The resulting scandal cost Mr. Boyd his job as managing editor.

But according to the report, Boyd achieved many firsts during his career. His climb, and reputation for dogged honesty and relentless pursuit, inspired generations of young minority journalists.Mr. Boyd, who graduated from the University of Missouri, started as a copy clerk on a scholarship program with the Post-Dispatch in the 1970s. After graduation, he took over the St. Louis City Hall beat and earned a reputation for becoming an expert on the issues he covered. Mr. Boyd became the Post-Dispatch White House correspondent in the early 1980s. Colleagues remember his detailed preparation before presidential news conferences.

The Times hired Mr. Boyd in 1983. Over the years he held many positions with the paper. He was the first black metro editor and managing editor. And Mr. Boyd was responsible for coverage that won the newspaper three Pulitzer Prizes, including one memorable series that examined the complexities of race in America. The issue was a personal one for Mr. Boyd, who had dealt with the challenges of race his entire career. He co-founded the Greater St. Louis Association of Black Journalists in 1977 and made it a point in his life to help guide aspiring minority journalists.

According to his wife, Robin Stone, Mr. Boyd first learned of his illness in February. He had a seizure while at his son's baseball practice. Doctors discovered lung cancer that had already spread to his brain. In addition to his wife, Mr. Boyd is survived by his 10-year-old son, Zachary.

I remember seeing Boyd in 2003 when he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the NABJ Awards that November. It was during the months after the New York Times scandal and I can recall how strong and stalwart he was in his acceptance speech. He would be greatly missed.

OK… on to my out town travels last week.

On Thursday, Turkey night, I checked out the welcome home event at the Loft for DJ Kut, who is a big time dee-jay in New York. I decided to take some snaps for it. There wasn’t anything biggie that happened. While I was there, dee-jay Fred D was on the 1s and 2s. Kut got therre about midnite and he took over the mike. One thing that I did find interesting was, the bouncers were patting the dudes (nothing unsual) for weapons, but they put the wand on the females. I guess The Loft ain't takin any chances with anybody especially after the array of black clubs closing like eyelids at night.

On Friday, I checked out Coco Soul’s (SEEN IN PIC ABOVE) very popular open-vocal mic event, Café Soul at their newest location The Missouri History Museum. I got there about 8ish and they had already started (which is good. LOL). I had brought a canned good for the Food Pantry collection they were having. It was a very nice crowd. They had some singers this time around including American Idol finalist Aloha 9I saw you on YOU PAID FOR IT in the background as your pop Ald. Freeman Bosley Sr. was getting PAID. LOL), American Idol finalist DeAndre Perryman, trumpeter Lamar Harris, Oneness (great save on the scatting on “India’s “There’s Hope” LOL), rapper Black Spade (I thought t yawl wasn’t having rap?) and his guest Coultrain.

Overall the event was very mellow and a great way of celebrating the holidays 9I celebrated by drinking a CAMO.LOL). I took some snaps, but I was a bit inebriated when I took them (One pic I took while I was taking of Perryman and his manager, I dropped my camunition. NOT GOOD. But it didn’t break, thank goodness).

But unfortunately, when I got to my car, after walking Dr.Pam Jackson and Allyson Price to their cars, I went to my car and saw that I had a 75 dollar ticket for parking in a handicap zone. Great.

In the house were (or, shall I say, the ones I remembered there), Black rep Founder Ron Himes, Black rep actor J Samuel Davis, local socialite Jamie Spencer, Dr. Pam Jackson, Jacque land, Allyson price, music producer James Glasco (thanks for the mix Cd tape—I will review soon!), Monica Tyson, Vanita Applebum, and X-jam (what’s up with you in the Monitor Newspaper? Did you kill somebody? LOL)

On Saturday, I just went to the gym to work on the gunz! (I hear that the Fannie Mae Ball was that nite but I was too poop'd to even show up to it).

On Sunday, I checked out Christophe Graffiti launch Fashion Line Fashion show (PICS OF MODELS SEEN ABOVE) at 555 Washington. I went there to support Christophe, as well as my boy Joel King who was directing this show (as well as stage construction! ), and to take some notes for my upcoming “masculine show project.” The show itself was highlighting the urban wear line for Macy’s stores and their upcoming shop on Cherokee.

The concept of the show was the male models with the female models as the guys; backdrop. The show itself was very Ebony fashion Fairish but, with any show, it had its share of problems. One, it started 90 minutes late (I’m sure do to unforeseen reasons) and when it did begin, they had local acts to buffer the crowd (singer Ruben Studdard I hear was to appear, but he cancelled due to other obligations).

Luckily, they had local artist who stepped in to savor some time for the fashion show to begin. They had local actress/singer Olivia Neal (who also was the stage manager) who sang two songs (She TOE UP Oleta’s Get Here), and Christian rapper Slugga who rapped a tune called, “Chillin with my Bible (Great title)!
But I was really feelin for the host local comedian Eric Rivers (who came up to me prior to the show and said that I looked familiar...) who was tryin his best to get the crowd on his funny bone, but the crowd was looking at him as though they were looking at Kramer on stage just without the n-word expletives. He did his best by getting the crowd into his comedy (which is G.to the H. to the E. to the double T O), even with his getting the "band of no name" to respond to his Jay Leno gestures, but I think he was just out of his element because the crowd was older and not hip-hop.

When the fashion show started, it ended. (It was about 20 minutes long!). The models definitely fulfilled the eye candy part and the brothas wore the urban fashions (I was hip to Christophe's fashions when they had exposed at the Pronto Fashion show in May of this year at 555 Washington) with rugged appeal. The models did their thing. Some were definitely runway material and the rest were, well, St. Louis models. LOL. I would have liek dto have seen more production with the scenes, but from what I hear, the show was rehearsed in two days, so that in itself is commendable. But overall, kudos to my boy Joel King who stepp'd up and directed this fashion show, his first.

Afterwards, I had my assistant Phil Crawford (who is the cuz of internationally renowned shoe designer and STL bred Courtney Crawford) to take pics of the scene. Meanwhile, I ran to Kamren who was in the show and I was curious to see his father whom he said came down from Omaha to visit him for the Turkey day holidays. Now mind you, Kamren was with his lady Dawna and there was this other “young couple” (I put these word sin parenthesis for a reason).

So when I asked Kam, “So, where’s your dad?” Kamren said, “There he go right there.” So I turned around and it was the young guy, supposedly who I walked passed. I shook his hand and I was astonished! He looked as though he could have been Kam’s older brother! I jokingly said to his dad, “When did you have Kamren at age, two? “ He fell out laughing. Then I said, "Whatever your secret is, I wanna by it.” The moment definitely took me aback.

Beside Kam, the other "star” models of the 20 or so models in the show were Lady, Nia, Paris, Maurice, Calvin, and Christian Cofield (It’ll be all right. LOL)

STL-TIDBITZ—Did you all know that KSDK anchor Cordell Whitlock was the god son to the late Ed Bradley? I didnt know that. Well, Bradley left Whitlock $250,000 of his $6.5 million estate which was mostly given to his wife. Whitlcok is credited saying Bradley sparked his interest in journalism by bringing him to a White House press conference as a third-grader..........Looks like local radio jocks and execs who work for Clear Channel are still getting jacked these days. First it was long time radio personality Denine Busby, then GM Chuck Atkins, exec Baqi Cherry, Isis Jones (who left or Phily) then 100.3, The Beat’s Dee Lee Morning Show with Dee Lee (SEEN IN PIC ABOVE and you can read St. Louis Post’s Kevin Johnson’s story on Dee Lee’s departure at

tvradio/story/B4A1CE65A7A61112862572300079D1C3?OpenDocument

and his co-hosts Ebony Walker and Jessie Taylor. Now I read in the ST. Louis American that Majic Breakfast Crew member and comedian Guy Torry who called it quits (You can read the story at

living_it/livingit001.txt)

But what I found puzzling was the rumor that syndicated talk show host Michael Baisden (SEEN IN PIC ABOVE ) that can be heard on Radio One’s FOXY 95.5, was getting fired. According to an early report on mediatakeout.com, for the last few months, Baisden had been negotiating with ABC Radio Network to extend his contract. And MediaTakeOut.com spoke exclusively with an executive at ABC Radio Network who claimed that the negotiations with Michael Baisden were over and Baisden would not be returning.

According to the insider, last week ABC Radio Network gave Baisden its final offer. One source told, "When we told Michael [Baisden] what our final offer was, he was furious ... at one point in the meeting things got so hostile - I started to think that he may be ready to snap." The source continued, "then, after raising his voice a number of times, Michael said that he wouldn't accept our offer and he walked out." While Michael Baisden was off the air for the past three weeks, comedienne Mo'Nique had taken his place as a sub host, but not a permanent sub.

And the ABC insider told MediaTakeOut.com that there's a long list of people ready to step in for Michael. But the insider said, "right now the leading candidate is Jackie Reed." Reed was formerly the co-host of The Steve Harvey Radio Show.

NOT! I GUESS

But what’s so puzzling about all of this, while I was in my car taking my mother to work on Wednesday, I heard his show and he reported, “This is Michael Baisden, no best of, I am live…” So, this is all confusing. What is really gong on? Who’s next…. Onion Horton?.......

St. Louis bred comedian Cedric the Entertainer has signed with ABC andTouchstone TV to star and produce a new sitcom for thenetwork. The comedian is already working with Larry Wilmore(The Bernie Mac Show) on the show, says Variety that'll be produced through Warner Bros. TV. It would star Cedric as a man who juggles his home life as the single father of a teenage girl with his work life as a security chief at LAX. No word if the show has been greenlit..............What’s up with St. Louis Cards First basemen Albert Pujols ranting that he should have won the MVP award this year getting beat out by Phillies First basemen Ryan Howard saying that it should have gone to someone who led their team in the playoffs. Man, Pujols is really showing his true colors these days. The city's golden boy is striking out big time with his arrogance. Man, isn’t winning the World series enough?............. I saw St. Louis born actress Lashaunda on TV One’s show, “Who Got Jokes” this week as a guest judge. She was very Paula Abdulish.............I heard that Bow Wow was in the STL Thursday. Does anybody know why?....

STL-TIDBITZ SPOTLIGHT

Now the doozy scoop........MediaTakeOut.com has learned that the new book, entitled The GaySuperhead, is set to expose the secret homosexual lifestyles of a number of hip hop superstars. The tell-all book will chronicle the life of Caushun(pronounced caution), a gay rapper that gainednational notoriety after appearing on Wendy Williams' radio show.

Caushun, who was signed to Kimora LeeSimmons' (SEEN IN PIC ABOVE) Baby Phat Records, was reportedly privy to some of Kimora's deepest secrets.

OH OH

MediaTakeOut.com spoke with a person close to Caushun who claims that the book will talk about Kimora's"extremely close" relationship with a lesbian woman. Kimora reportedly purchased a Manhattan apartment where she allowed Caushun and the woman to live in - rent free. The source explained, "in return for free rent, Caushun was a decoy for Kimora and her [close friend]... When the three of them were seen in public, the woman was explained as Caushun'sroommate and not Kimora's friend."

BUT THAT"S NOT IT...

The book also will talk about Kimora's ex, Russell and his relationship with a male executive at Phat Farm.

WHOA!

According to our source, one of Russell's closest friends and a top ranking executive at his company is an undercover homosexual. That executive, reportedly pressured Caushun into having sex with him. The source explains, "Caushun had sex with[the executive] in a side room at the Simmons' home just days before [that executive] got married to a woman."

THIS IS A BIT MUCH DON'T YOU THINK? WHY IS CAUSHUN PUTTING THIS OUT NOW? BUT WAIT, IT GETS EVEN MORE INTERESTING...

There are still a number of obstaclesblocking the publication of the book. First, Caushun signed a confidentiality agreement with Kimora LeeSimmons that prevents him from publicly talking about their relationship. Also, MediaTakeOut.com has learned that Caushun is currently in the midst of legal troubles that could land him in prison.

WHOOH, THIS IS DEFINITELY A DOOZY! I'm SURE WE HAVEN'T HEARD THE LAST OF THESE REPORTS!
