OUT 106

FYI. I HAVE CHANGED MY BLOG NAME AND MY BLOGGER SYSTEM STARTING THIS WEEK. DUE TO THE SLOW PROCESS OF BLOGGER, I HAVE CHANGED THE BLOG NAME FROM MAATSPEAR TO OUT TOWN AND FROM REGULAR BLOGGER TO TO BLOGGER BETA SO I CAN UPLOAD PHOTOS QUICKER..................................................

OK now back to the blog stuff...........................

Trick or Treat, smell my feet, gimme something good to eat…

I’m sure y’all heard that slogan many times before this past weekend (Well, at least my boy Christiaan was creative when he texted me the opening lines of the late actor Vincent Price's rap on Michael Jackson's Thriller". LOL) and Tuesday with err body doing their Halloween thing. Me? Well, I made some money. That was my treat.

But getting on to the wordz.
This is Ma’atology one more week for ya, so herr it iz:
The St. Louis Cardinals are actually THE World Series champs(SEEN IN PIC ABOVE) ! I am like that Old school Atlantic Star jam, “Am I Dreaming?” And I think err body here in the STL are thinking the same thing. The last time the Cards has won a series was when Ozzie Smith was the star of player of the Redbirds, “ET” was the top flick, “Dallas” was one the top shows in the USA and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” was just getting ready to drop and I was a pre-teen (I’ll just leave it at that. LOL) That year was 1982. From 83 wins to World Series champions in less than a month is unheard of like the Invisible man trying to speak! They won their 10th championship(ABOVE IS PIC OF CENTERFIELDER JIM EDMONDS HOLDING THE TROPHY) , second in the major leagues to the New York Yankees' 26 titles.

The Cards clinched the Series against the Detroit Tigers in Game 5 last Friday in the new Busch Stadium. I heard the news while attending the 4246Fahsion Show (which I will talk about more in depth later in my report). I think American idol finalist and STL native Nikko Smith must have given them luck when he sang the National Anthem on that night (I guess someone must have shamed them for trying to get non-ST. Louisans country singers Billy Ray Cyrus (and his daughter , Disney star Miley) and Jo Dee Messina to perform! )

I know what you all are saying, the ones who follow my post as far as my prediction of the Cards’ outcome. I’m glad I covered my ass sort of speak as far as predicting if they were going to win. Last week I said, “Can the Cards win the Series? It’s possible. But I think it will go the whole seven games and it will be a close call with the Tigers edging out the Cards………” Well, I’m not perfect. From what I heard it was like a controlled riot in the downtown area after the Cards victory as people danced in the streets (All they needed was Martha and the Vandellas’ Motown jam, “Dancin in the Streets to be blasting”).

I knew right then and therre that the following weekend was going to be Cards fever. On Saturday, The Cards’ website had issued free tickets to the pep rally at Busch Stadium on last Sunday. Did y’all know that those tickets sold out in 70 minutes? That’s faster than someone spreading some juicy gossip! And you know it was some people taking advantage of the opportunity by selling the tickets on EBay for as high as 600 bones…

I didn’t go to the pep rally or the March to the Stadium pep rally on Sunday. I decided to look at it on TV and from the looks of it, it looked like the crowd that was at the Million Man March in 1995, instead of a sea of black people, it was a sea of red, as in Cards paraphernalia and all. I hear that almost a half a million people were all hanging down on Market Street downtown on the curbs and up in buildings and all just to catch a glimpse of the 2006 Cards champs. And a third of them were lucky to get a seat inside Busch for the pep rally.

From reports, The Cardinals received a prolonged standing ovation from the pep rally on Market to the stadium at Busch. The Cardinals were transported by trucks down Market Street in downtown St. Louis before finishing things with a rally at Busch (ABOVE PIC OF CARDS MANAGER TONY LARUSSA IS SEEN ABOVE WITH THE CLYDESDALES) . The team received thunderous applause while walking from the dugout to a podium placed at second base. The irony with all of this is, in all of the sea of red in downtown St. Louis with the fans and all, the ones who didn’t wear a spot of red, were the Cards players! The good and bad news facts about the Cards was St. Louis is considered to be one of the best baseball cities in America and sold out every game in the first year of the new Busch Stadium with a total attendance of 3.4 million.

Now that’s a WOW!

But The World Series averaged a record-low 10.1 television rating, down 9 percent from the previous low of 11.1 for last year's sweep by the Chicago White Sox over Houston. But Fox officials said they were pleased the Series won the prime-time ratings battle for all five nights among viewers from 18 to 49.

Oh well, you can’t win em all.I know y’all have been following the whole St. Louis is the most dangerous city brouhaha this week (just minutes after the world Series Pep rally mind you ). According to a publishing firm in Kansas City called, Morgan Quitno Press, they put out a volume on Most Dangerous Cities and the STL was topped at No. 1. According to them, “ a surge in violence made St. Louis the most dangerous city in the country, leading a trend of violent crimes rising much faster in the Midwest than in the rest of nation, according to an annual list.”

Well, CNN contacted Mayor Francis Slay about the claim and he said quote, “This is a bogus report. The guy who put it out is not the FBI. He is a fast buck artist who puts out bogus lists because he Knows the news media love lists.”

OUCH. Alright Francis Carleon!

He went on to say, “He purposely timed this to coincide with the Cardinals World Series win to get maximum exposure to publicize his company and the stuff he sells.”

TRUE DAT.

“Because St. Louis city boundaries are set, it does not include the entire region to be factored in. In other cities, the equivalent of Clayton, Webster Groves, University City, and Shrewsbury would be partof the central City, thereby diluting the crime numbers into a larger,
more homogenous population. We have increased the business license fee to add more police officers to our most dangerous offenders program, to create a career criminal unit in the circuit attorney's office, and to beef up our problem property and nuisance crims strike force. We do have high crime neighborhoods, but the vast majority of ur neighborhoods are safe.”

My question is, if any of the Cards fans have purchased this book? Just a thought.

In national newz:

With the Nov. 7 off-year election slowly creeping up on us, I’m sure we have all seen our share of the mudslinging campaigns out there. One in particular has been the ‘racist’ commercial (dubbed the Call me ad) produced by the Republican National committee against Demos. Harold Ford, a brotha who is running for the Senate from Tennessee. The commercial depicts a pretty blonde woman coming on to an African-American politician saying, “Call Me.” They Republicans were playing off the fact that Ford had once been invited to the Playboy Mansion and well, there you go. Can we say the Mandingo Syndrome? Playing up on white man fear of the black private dick taking their white women playing on this. In other words, the Willie Horton trump card. This is too much playin.

In other controversial political stuff, Mass. Senator and former 2004 prez hopeful John Kerry I’m sure is regretting remarks of education and Dubya this week when he spoke to students at Pasadena City College in Pasadena. The quote that got err body in an uproar a (and I’m sure will be the quote of the year) was, “You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework, you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

It was supposedly suppose to be joke on Bush, but I guess, like his audience, they didn’t get the joke and didn’t laugh. (Or as Janet said on Rhythm Nation CD jam, "The Knowledge": Its nice to laugh, but don’t be the joke!" HELLO)

Well this being an election year, you know the Repubs were going to take advantage of this like a free buffet. Even Dubya chimed he blasted Kerry saying that he should apologize about talking about the troops.

Kerry rebutted and said that he was not going to apologize for his remarks because he was “simply attempting to share a joke that was intended to characterize the President as someone who didn't do his homework when he was in school and, as a result, didn't do his homework before he rushed us into Iraq under false pretenses.”

Reportedly, he was telling the students that they should study hard so as to avoid future mistakes or avoidable disasters like the quagmire that we're currently enduring in Iraq.
In other words, in actuality he was calling President Bush and his administration, "stupid and lazy" and NOT the soldiers with whom Sen. Kerry so strongly identifies with and supports, having been a soldier himself.

Oh boy. Well, you know in this country, your word is your bond.and the Repubs are using that bond to post Kerry’s bail—to apologize.

As a result of all this, Kerry canceled several campaign trips maintaining that “he does not want to become a “distraction’’ for the Democratic Party’s campaign in their closing days.”
Man, I tell ya. This is definitely some 15 minute ish. I guess the Repubs are doing its best to get on the spotlight’s good light especially after the Tom Foley IM boy page scandal, well, I guess in politics, you gotta hava tough skin to play hardball.

Elsewhere, Prez. Dubya signed into law for the construction of 700 miles of fence on the border of Mexico City to curb the immigration problem in Cali (But what about that underground drug tunnel that was discovered that went from Mexico City to Southern Cali?) …….raging fires near Palm Springs. Cali where 40K acres have burned and 30 homes burned down and a few firefighters were fighting for their lives (The Governator wasn’t able to save the day on this one) … KFC will no longer use trans fat in their chicken (takes a lickin’ before your heart stops tickin) ….and Cash Money group members Lil Wayne and Baby were photographed giving each other a kiss on the lips after doing the frat hug)Can anyone say “Cash-back Mountain?) .

This is what I DID this past weekend:

On Friday, I checked out Nia’s 4246 Fashion show (PICS OF MODELS AND THE FIRECEST MODEL IN THE STL--PARIS IS SEEN SEEN ABOVE) that was held at Anthony Robinson’s two –story house on McPherson. I got there around 7ish because the show was supposed to start around 7:30 (I’ll get to that later). So when I got to the street, I saw that Anthony (who is slowly becoming the Hugh Hefner of the STL when it comes to house parties these days.) had valet people parking people’s cars! Whoa talk about class. I was feeling that. My thing is, if you are going to have a classy fashion show at a classy house, then you must give those classy amenities along with it. Ya feel me?

So I parked down the street and was able to find a curb side parking area not too far from the house. I walked up and there was this unique looking sista with a beehive hairdo that were tearing tickets and checking VIPs list people. I gave her my pres spas sand told her who I was and I got access in. I saw that a few people were in the chairs in the living room and observed the area. I saw that there were several photographers and videographers up in there (one being Spit Flix creator and St. Lunatics video director Dana Christian) and up and coming photographer Phil Crawford (who I will show some of his pics from the show in OUT 106) . So in the meantime, I chilled out until the show started and watched DJ Nappy needles on the 1s and 2s and two brothers dressed in all black pour free wine to the guests.

The show started around 8:30 and the first models that came out wherr the body paint models. One that sat on the end of the nook and the other that stood near the door leading to the first floor balcony. I tri'd getting a good spot to take some shots. I was first on the backdoor steps which lead to the backyard by the two huge folding doors (and it was quite nippy outside) where the photographers. I was not feeling that, so I carpet near the steps in front of the kitchen table top across from the bathroom area where the models would walk toward the back steps to get my shots (along with Mr. Crawford). I was kneeling like I was doing a permanent knee squat just to get a good shot. I’m glad I did cause I would have been jocking for a picture where the rest of the media where.

About 60 or so people witnessed this show which reminded me of a fashion show that New York would have: classy models, great clothes, serious runway ISH. There were no choreographed numbers or none of the fashion filler. The music could have been more grander and more instrumental stuff from needles, but other than that, it was definitely one of the few shows I've seen that was runway fashion standard.

The fashions that were spotlighted were Paper Doll, Gyrl, Runway fashions, Blush, and Sole Blue. There were 16 models, of all ethnic groups, who let the crowd have it were Avery, Christiaan, Corey (aka the ladies’ fave),Dominique, Emily, Jaime, Jeron, Kate, Lynette (with your sexy self. LOL) Melissa, Nia, Paris (AKA Cleopatra Jones!), Sam (as in Samantha) Star, and Tasha.

But the party really got started when the runway was closed and we all let our hair down partying and drinking wine and Needles spinnin on the 1s and 2s. Things really got to be a party when we all heard that the Cards won the World Series. It was people who shrieked with excitement.

The highlights were when The wine boyz and Avery did some Boyz II Men-Motownphilly moves, when the wine boyz went low on the floor with one of the body paint models and when a very wine induced Christiaan broke out in a a Michaal Jackson, “Thriller’ move. My girl Nia who coordinated the fashion show was getting her drink and party on (She even took out from HQ from the fridg!). She stole me for a minute to dance with me as I did my best freekum grind with her. LOL

Things started winding down around 1ish and I decided to roll out before Anthony began ringing the alarm for us to get tha hell out of there!

In the house (literally) were local designer Everette Johnson, Samson of Runway Fashions, body paint artist Jessica Dana(who invited me to her Pin Up Calendar party at the Pin Up Bowl on Nov. 16) , Harris Stowe professor/model Brain Elesser, and St. Louis American Entertainment editor Bill Beene

On Saturday, I checked out Hipster magazine’s “Candy” at the Filter Bar (formerly Nik’s Wine Bar) on Belt and Pershing. Well, I must have been the only one who got the memo to this one, cause when I get there, there were only three people outside and one was the bouncer. I think err body was at the Masquerade party that was held nearby outside in the Central West End area. I stayed for a minute to chat with one of them, local socialite Jamie Spencer (what’s up with this singing stuff?) , I stood outside for about thirty minutes, saw a black limo park out front (with a chauffeur dressed like a butler who opened the door for them) where some females exited to go in the club, but mot of the people who attended, stayed outside and chill out. Well, as much as my knowledge cause after that, I jetted back to the crib.

FOR PICS OF BOTH THE FASHION SHOW AND CANDY GO TO OUT 105.

STL-TIDBITZ. This past weekend, the producers of the local hit gospel film, “Tapestry of Shadows” (which will be featured in this years’ St. Louis International Film Festival this month) had a successful run at Parrish Temple CME Church. According to director David Conley, the crowds were enthusiastic and really allowed themselves to be moved by the power of God through the medium of the motion picture. This weekend, on November 4th and 5th the film will be shown at Olive Chapel AME Church, For more info go to
www.tapestryofshadows.com……………………

I heard St. Louis American City Editor Alvin Reid on Don Wolff’s weekly Sunday show on KMOX "And Justice For All" this past Sunday guest hosting and talking about Negro leaguers and child support (Isn’t it time for your own radio or talk show man?) ….

I heard that a lot of employees at Clear Channel here in the STL are getting the boot. Two I’ve heard were radio vet personality Deneen Busby and exec Baqi Cherry. And
speaking of Majic personalities, maybe that is why personality Queen Isis Jones has found another job in Philly. Man she’s always able to escape the firing squad. Just two years ago, she was able to stay at the former Q95.5. after personalities were fired (Including WHHL Hot Morning Show’s Craig Blac), then moved over to Majic after Q 95.5. changed to FOXY. Man, whatever she’s doing ,she knows how to play the corporate game…………………

I also heard that former First Friday bouncer/security guy and college buddy Brian Stemmons is leaving STL for Army Reserves duty in Phoenix as soon as of this writing.…

I hear that local actor/’director Joel King may direct the upcoming Christophe Graffiti fashion show this month…………….

What’s going on with this new unsigned signer here in the STL named Juju breaking buzz so fast and so quick?. I heard Dee Lee’s Morning Show on Wednesday which is the day where they feature unsigned artists’ CD’s and the show’s phone and email were blowing up like the Taliban! He is an R&B artist that came in the studios at 100.3. The Beat to be interviewed, serenaded morning show co-host Ebony , got her blushing as he sang acca pello to her, and sistas text messaging her saying is he cute and all. Dee Lee reported on his show that of all the artists that have been featured, this Juju cat has been getting the most hits on the phone and cyber waves. Wow. Is there a phenomenon that is about to break? We’ll see. If y’all want to check out his my space page, just go to onejuju………………………………..

I saw Jibbs on Fox 2 news at noon taking about his career and debut CD….
On a national level, Rapper Nelly (who will celebrate a B-day this week . I think he may be turning 34 who knows) was honored in New York this past week by the Black Retail Action Group (BRAG) for the success of his fashion line, Apple Bottoms and his philanthropic work ….
Chingy and Tyra Banks?. According to Star Magazine, the supermodel/mogul has been busy playing footsie with rapper Chingy! The pair first met on an episode of Tyra Banks’ talk show last year when Chingy revealed to Tyra that he had a thing for fine women’s feet. Tyra immediately tore off her shoes and plopped her tootsies right down on Chingy’s lap — embarrassing the poor rapper!

Hoping for a second chance with the St. Louis native, Tyra recently invited Chingy back to her show to tape not one but two episodes for November sweeps — and this time, Tyra made sure to have her toes done! “On the first episode, Tyra tried to kiss Chingy, and he seemed to be taken aback by her forwardness,” an audience member tells Star, “But the next day, Tyra teased Chingy, saying, ‘I have a fresh pedi!” Chingy immediately rubbed and kissed Tyra’s bare feet and then said, ‘I know I was a little taken back the other day, but now I’m ready for a real kiss!’ and the two locked lips! You could see the sparks fly!”

He's 26 and she's 32. Hmmmm, I wonder if he's gonna “pull back” on this? Only time will tell………………….

MA’AT-TDBITZ. Who’s Who of Black St. Louis publisher Kevin Antone sent me an email regarding the reception on Nov. 6. He emails:

Hey team: First let me thank you all for your efforts with the third edition of Who's Who in Black St. Louis! I could not have done this alone. If you’re planning to attend the reception, I will leave two tickets and a book voucher for each one of you at the door of the Ritz. I look forward to seeing you all that night, if you’re unable to attend, I will send you a copy of the book after the reception. Again thanks for your support! To be continued.......

Can this come with my cheddar, too? I’m just saying….
I got this one from architect Anthony Robinson, The brotha who had teh 4246 fashion Show at his house. he emailed:
Hey M,

I’m finally getting to dropping you a line. I was checking out your site, and noticed some of the photos you took from my house party. You can send the other photos to this email address.

So what time did you get to the fashion show? I didn’t remember seeing you until the after party. So what did you think of the show. I was just tryin’ to keep it from being another “black” fashion show! So did you get any good photos of the show or the after party? I think I’m partied out for this year, but I’m sure I’ll do a fashion show in the spring, and combine it with a house party! So in the meantime, let me know of any events going on. I’ll do the same. Peace.

Huh? Like I told him in my email back to him, that he must have had too much wine in his pimp cup. LOL. How could you not remember me after I hounded him with my biz card since the House Party three weeks ago, at the Jibbs Party at Club Dolce (that he deisgend BTW) and at the fashion show! LOL . I see why you are slowin down with party scene for a minute. But it's all good.
My buddy from Los Angeles, Curtis Wilson emailed me and wrote:

Hey Dude, Congrats to you guys on your winning of the WorldSeries. I hope you're going out to celebrate. Take care, my brotha and we'll be chatting soon. CW
